Chapter Service & Philanthropy
Commitment to service and philanthropy is a priority for each member of Kappa Alpha Theta at the University of Kentucky. The Gamma Iota chapter hosts a campus-wide step competition with Alpha Phi Alpha each spring called “Stompapalooza.” The event most recently raised over $25,000 for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Lexington and March of Dimes in spring 2015.
DanceBlue is another event also near and dear to each member’s heart. DanceBlue is a 24 hour dance marathon that raises money for the UK DanceBlue Hematology and Oncology Clinic. This past year Theta’s team participated with 35 members, with several other members serving on Dance Blue Committees. Kappa Alpha Theta is always “For the Kids!”
Additionally, Theta’s enjoy supporting the causes at off-campus community organizations such as God’s Pantry and Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon. Each member also pursues community service she has an individual passion for. Whether it is serving others through mission trips with Hand in Hand Ministries, making blankets for the homeless with Wrap Up America, or volunteering in local Lexington public schools, every Theta strives to pay it forward.
